Specialized Academic Services

Students with learning differences can flourish with the support of Greenwich Education Group’s Specialized Learning Services. Working from the recommendations of neuropsychological or psycho-educational evaluations and the results of standardized academic assessments, we can create a personalized educational support program to help your child take charge of their learning and reach their full academic potential.

For younger students, we design educational plans to target his or her unique needs, incorporating alternative teaching methods and providing ample reinforcement. For older students, we employ metacognitive learning strategies that help them understand their strengths and weaknesses and reach their full academic potential independently. Above all, our specialized teachers and consultants work with our students to encourage self-advocacy and enable academic confidence.

How can we help your child with Learning Differences?

  • Reading and writing remediation utilizing multi-sensory approach
  • Strategies to assist students with non-verbal learning disabilities (NLD/NVLD)

A Multi-Sensory Approach to Teaching Reading and Writing

Greenwich Education Group can help students with learning differences master the skills of reading and writing. We provide the essential components of effective reading instruction, which are stipulated by the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD) and supported by the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act. Research supports multi-sensory language programs in that students demonstrate better retention when they are taught the phonetic codes of language instead of memorizing words by sight. By combining visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile techniques, memory and learning are significantly enhanced.

Our teachers are trained in a variety of programs, including Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood Bell, Wilson and PAF (Preventing Academic Failure). We consider all information from the student’s school and from recent academic evaluations to ensure that our teachers understand each student’s strengths and how to leverage on them to improve learning outcomes. Some areas of focus include:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Reading Comprehension Skills & Strategies

All of the research-based teaching methods we use emphasize individualized support to enable every student to succeed. To learn more, call 203.661.1609 to schedule an appointment with one of our reading specialists.
